Ahead of the 2026 motorsport season and the prestigious Pearl of Africa Uganda Rally, the Federation of Motorsport Clubs of Uganda (FMU) organized a crucial refresher course to bolster safety controls at rally events.

On Monday, February 16, 2026, in Ndeeba, over 100 marshals and safety officials participated in a comprehensive one-day training session. The training, facilitated by the Uganda Police and FMU officials, focused on mitigating terrorism risks and ensuring public safety during rally events.

Assistant Senior Superintendent of Police (ASSP) Hussein Nsobya, Director of the Counter Terrorism Unit, provided expert guidance, alongside former FMU Deputy President of Technical Rallying and Clerk of Course for the Pearl of Africa Uganda Rally, Kisitu Mayanja, and current FMU Vice President of Administration, Hajji Hamid Gombe, who is in charge of Safety and Medical Commissions. Dr. Derrick Okech, FMU’s medical delicate was present.

Nsobya cautioned trainees that any person or place could be a target, emphasizing the importance of heightened security awareness. He urged participants to plan destinations in advance, be punctual at deployment points, and proactively identify potential safety hazards. He also suggested the FMU should designate specific zones for officials, VIPs, and fans to facilitate effective security management.

“Safety starts with you,” Nsobya stated, encouraging officials to be observant and report any suspicious activity to the police.

Clerk of Course Kisitu Mayanja stressed the importance of adhering to the code of conduct, emphasizing accountability for all officials.

FMU’s medical delegate, Doctor Derrick Okech, highlighted the need for competitors and riders to undergo timely medical checks.

This training underscores the FMU’s commitment to providing a safe and enjoyable environment for all participants and spectators during the upcoming Pearl of Africa Uganda Rally and future events.
