Junior Riders Ignite 2026 Motocross Season Opener in Garuga

By Frank Kaheesi-

The 2026 motocross season roared to life in spectacular fashion at Garuga, with the spotlight shining brightest on the junior classes. In races packed with, bar-to-bar battles, and raw determination, Uganda’s youngest riders delivered performances that had fans on their feet and engines screaming in approval.

From the very first gate drop, it was clear this was more than just a season opener  it was a statement about the future of the sport. The intensity in the junior categories was nothing short of jaw-dropping, with riders pushing their limits lap after lap. Their confidence in the air and control through the corners signaled a generation that is not just coming up  it’s ready to take over.

Uganda’s growing strength in motocross is no accident. With the country currently ranked third in Africa, the foundation is solid. However, turning that potential into continental dominance will require serious backing. Eyes are already on Namibia 2026, where a fully funded national team could turn Uganda’s promise into podium results. Without financial support, that dream risks stalling before it even leaves the starting gate.

George Ssemakula, the event clerk and also a devoted rider parent, summed it up perfectly: the little riders are the future. With several top MX1 and MX2 stars absent from the opener, the gap at the elite level was noticeable. But instead of dulling the event, it amplified the urgency to invest in the juniors who are clearly ready to rise.

One class that truly lit up the track was the 125cc category. Miguel Katende, Jerome Mubiru, and Ron Young went head-to-head in electrifying battles that had fans holding their breath. Every lap was a chess match at race pace  bold overtakes, tight defensive lines, and a refusal to back down. It was motocross at its purest: skill, speed, and heart.

As the dust settled over Garuga, one thing was certain  the 2026 season has started with fire, and Uganda’s motocross future is not just bright, it’s blazing.
