NCS Applauds FMU Governance and Compliance Drive as MX Team Uganda Heads to Namibia
FMU Media -— The National Council of Sports (NCS) has commended the Federation of Motorsport Clubs of Uganda (FMU) for its efforts to strengthen governance, compliance and grassroots development as Team Uganda prepares for the 2026 FIM Africa Motocross of African Nations (MXoAN) in Windhoek, Namibia.
Speaking at the team’s flag-off, NCS General Secretary Dr Bernard Patrick Ogwel praised FMU for embracing the recent verification exercise and working to strengthen district and regional motorsport structures. He said compliance should go beyond administration and provide a foundation for credible, accountable and sustainable sports development.

NCS Assistant General Secretary–Technical Milton Chebet also noted progress among motorsport stakeholders, while encouraging continued efforts to improve structures, documentation and accountability across the country.
Dr Ogwel further commended FMU’s grassroots talent-identification programmes, particularly opportunities for children as young as five to seven years to participate in motocross. He also recognised the contribution of parents, team managers and mechanics in developing young riders and supporting Uganda’s international teams.

He pledged continued NCS support and reminded the team that Government has mechanisms to recognise Ugandans who win medals at international competitions. He also invited the team to a luncheon at Copper Chimney ahead of their departure.
Meanwhile, Government has disbursed Shs1.2 billion to support the running of federation activities. In addition, FMU has committed Shs295 million to fund Team Uganda’s participation in Namibia, covering accommodation, air travel, transportation of motorcycles, international competition licences and internal travel within Namibia.
Uganda will field 37 riders, including a record 10 female competitors, the highest number of women ever entered by a country in MXoAN history.
The team will be looking to improve on Uganda’s recent record after finishing third in Cape Town in 2023, second in Marrakesh in 2024 and third in Victoria in 2025.

The 2026 MXoAN will take place from August 28–30 at Gallina Motocross Track in Windhoek, attracting approximately 180 riders from across Africa.
As the team heads to Namibia, FMU’s campaign combines the pursuit of continental honours with its wider commitment to compliance, grassroots participation and building a sustainable pathway for the next generation of Ugandan motorsport talent.
