Rally Season Revved Up as KCB Commits UGX 560M to NRC

The thunder of rally engines, the sharp scent of burnt rubber, and the growing anticipation of high-speed action had already gripped Uganda’s motorsport fraternity long before the official confirmation arrived. For weeks, speculation had been building among fans, crews, and officials about who would step up to back the 2026 season. That wait finally came to an end in emphatic fashion when KCB Bank Uganda unveiled a massive UGX 560 million sponsorship, securing naming rights for the entire Uganda National Rally Championship calendar and setting the tone for what promises to be a blockbuster season.

The announcement was made at the bank’s headquarters along Lugogo Bypass in an event that attracted a cross-section of stakeholders, including journalists, rally drivers, team managers, and motorsport administrators. The atmosphere was filled with excitement and optimism as Managing Director Edgar Byamah officially handed over a cheque to Jimmy Akena, the president of the Federation of Motorsport Clubs of Uganda. The gesture symbolized not just financial backing, but a renewed commitment to elevating motorsport in Uganda to greater heights.
Speaking during the event, Byamah highlighted that motorsport aligns perfectly with KCB’s values of precision, resilience, teamwork, and excellence under pressure. He emphasized that the bank’s involvement goes beyond branding, noting that it is a strategic investment aimed at nurturing talent, enhancing the competitiveness of the championship, and using the sport as a platform to showcase Uganda’s diversity and tourism potential. The partnership is also expected to improve event organization, safety standards, and overall fan experience across all eight rounds of the championship.
With the sponsorship now confirmed, attention quickly shifts to the much season opener scheduled for March 27–28 in Mbale. organized by the MPU Club, marks a significant milestone as the eastern town returns to the national rally calendar after an eight-year absence. The Mbale event is expected to provide a stern test for both drivers and machines, making it a perfect curtain-raiser for the season.

A total of 34 crews have already confirmed their participation, underlining the level of interest and competitiveness expected this year. The entry list features a blend of experienced champions and ambitious challengers eager to make their mark from the very first round. Among the headline acts are Duncan Mubiru a crowd favorite with a flair for spectacular driving, Yasin Nasser, the reigning ARC champion,Rwanda’s Queen Kalimpinya and multiple-time champion Ronald Ssebuguzi, whose experience and composure make him a formidable contender.
Beyond the established names, the rally is also expected to provide a platform for emerging talents to prove their abilities and challenge the status quo. With improved backing and heightened competition, the 2026 season could see new rivalries emerge and fresh faces rise through the ranks, adding an extra layer of excitement for fans.
