When the engines fire up for the Shell V-Power Pearl of Africa Uganda Rally 2026, one crew will be carrying more than helmets and overalls they will be carrying the hopes, pride, and fighting spirit of women in motorsport across Uganda and beyond. Asiimwe Doreen and Monica Birwinyo arrive as the all-ladies crew ready to prove that rallying talent does not come with a gender label.
This is not a charity entry. This is not a sightseeing trip. This is a competitive crew coming to fight, and some men in the field may soon discover that underestimating women in rallying can become a very expensive mistake.
Asiimwe Doreen may still be new to rallying, but she has wasted no time making an impression. She launched her motorsport career last year, contesting selected events in the CRC class while driving a humble Toyota FX. While some were still learning where the start line was, Doreen was already collecting results. In the opening round of the season, she finished 2nd in class, proving she is not in the sport for photos and social media captions.
Now comes a bigger challenge, a bigger stage, and a bigger machine. For this year’s Pearl Rally, Doreen steps into the iconic Subaru Impreza GC8, one of rallying’s most legendary names. Loud, aggressive, and built for excitement, the GC8 suits a driver who is ready to move to the next level.
Beside her sits Monica Birwinyo, a woman who brings a very unique twist to the cockpit—she is not only a co-driver but also an actor. That means she understands timing, delivery, emotion, and performance, all of which surprisingly fit perfectly into rally navigation. In rallying, confidence in the voice matters just as much as confidence in the car and Monica knows how to perform under pressure, whether on stage or on screen.

Together, Doreen and Monica form a crew that mixes discipline with personality. One controls the steering wheel, the other controls the rhythm of the stages. If rallying is a performance, then this Subaru GC8 has both speed and drama built into it.
Representing DRT, the crew enters the KCB NRC class with a clear mission: represent women proudly, compete aggressively, and score meaningful championship points. Missing the opening round only increases their hunger to make a strong impact here.
Driving Style
Doreen drives with courage, confidence, and growing maturity. She is learning quickly, improving steadily, and showing the kind of hunger that creates dangerous competitors. With the GC8 now under her control, expect more attack, more confidence, and more excitement.
Pearl Rally 2026 Expectations
The mission is loud and clear: represent women proudly, challenge the men, score maximum points, and keep championship hopes alive. They are not coming to ask for respect—they are coming to earn it on the stages.

And for the men in the field, one friendly warning: if you hear a Subaru behind you and laughter on the intercom, it may already be too late. Because when Doreen and Monica arrive, it is no longer “ladies first” it may be ladies fastest
