Uganda National Rally Championship (NRC) Kicks Off in Mbarara

The Uganda National Rally Championship (NRC) has officially begun in Mbarara, with drivers conducting reconnaissance (recce) ahead of the much-anticipated season opener. This year’s event, titled the “Lumala at 60, Mum at 90 Birthday Rally Mbarara,” is organized by Motorsport Promo Uganda (MPU) and will cover the districts of Mbarara and Kiruhura.

The rally features a total competitive distance of 138.7 kilometers, divided into seven thrilling stages. The action will start on Friday, January 24th, 2025, at 9:20 AM, with the opening stage, Maama, stretching 14.4 kilometers from Biharwe to Kanyaryeru. After completing this initial challenge, teams will head for service before taking on an exciting double-track Super Special Stage at Mwesigwa Resort.

Day Two (Saturday, January 25th, 2025) will present five demanding sections, culminating in the longest and most challenging stage of the rally, the Lumala section. This segment spans 30.02 kilometers from Akyaapa to Kibega, testing drivers’ skill and endurance.

This year’s NRC opener has attracted over 40 registered crews, including an international entry from Rwanda’s Adolphe Nshimiyimana, navigated by Regis Remera in a Subaru Impreza N10.

The local pack is led by three-time NRC champion Ronald Sebuguzi, who will be navigated by Anthony Mugambwain a Ford Proto and is looking forward to rebirth their championship contention for the fourth title under their belt.

On the women’s side, Asiimwe Doreen and Alvin Luyimbazi made their Clubman Rally championship contention competing in a Toyota FX .
