Overview

Mansoor Lubega is widely regarded as the undisputed king of the 2WD class a driver who has made people question physics, logic, and occasionally common sense.

In a sport dominated by powerful 4WD machines, Mansoor has built a reputation for going head-to-head with them in a humble Toyota Corolla, a car that somehow behaves like it has a hidden turbo button only he knows about. He is the kind of driver who doesn’t just race 2WD cars he convinces them to fight above their weight category.

Rally Journey

Mansoor entered rallying in 2013 during the Mbarara Rally, where he completed only two events but managed a respectable 8th overall finish in one event alongside Anthony Mugambwa. That early result was enough to prove one thing: this man was not just here to participate he was here to disturb the order of things.

Since then, his journey has been challenging, full of mechanical experiments, learning curves, and moments where both man and machine had to negotiate mid-stage. But through it all, Mansoor has remained consistent in one thing: surprising everyone.

Co-driver Partnerships

Over the years, Mansoor has worked with a long list of co-drivers who have all contributed to his development in different ways.

These include Anthony Mugambwa, Musa Kizito, Arthur Lugolobi, Rahmah Mohammed, Ronnie Bwette, Duncan Katumba, and most recently Kenneth Kavuma. His current partnership with Kavuma has been particularly successful, with the duo showing strong rhythm, confidence, and the ability to keep the Corolla pointed in the right direction even when things start getting emotionally fast.

Machinery Evolution

Mansoor’s garage history reads like a rally museum with identity issues. He has driven a Toyota Trueno, Subaru GC8, Toyota Levin, and now his current weapon of choice the Toyota Corolla. This Corolla has become his signature machine, famously described by fans as:

“It looks standard… but it doesn’t drive standard.” It has delivered multiple victories, a 2WD championship, and enough stage wins to make even 4WD cars look twice before overtaking.

Pearl of Africa Rally Expectations

Heading into the Shell V-Power Pearl of Africa Uganda Rally, Mansoor arrives not as a challenger, but as a benchmark in the 2WD category.

Together with Kenneth Kavuma, the mission is clear:

  • Maintain championship momentum
  • Score maximum 2WD points
  • Continue proving that 2WD is not a limitation, but a lifestyle choice
  • And remind 4WD crews that “respect is optional, but embarrassment is not”

With strong form from the opening round in Mbale, Mansoor enters the event with confidence, consistency, and a Corolla that refuses to accept its “non-turbo” reputation. Because in Mansoor’s world 2WD doesn’t mean slow it just means you enjoy the corner more than the straight line.
