Overview

Didas Matsiko, a proud son of Mbarara, is one of those rally drivers who looks calm in the car… until you realise the car is doing things even he didn’t expect. Known for his composed style, Didas believes in finishing rallies first before thinking about podium celebrations because in his world, “finishing is already winning enough noise.”

Rally Journey

Didas made his first notable appearance in the rally scene back in 2016 during the FMU Kayunga Challenge Rally. Navigated by Alfred Mutanda in a Subaru Impreza WRX, he managed a respectable 15th overall finish. That debut performance became a turning point, giving him the confidence to pursue rallying more seriously. Since then, he has gradually climbed the ranks of the sport through persistence, learning, and experience on different stages across Uganda.

Co-driver Partnerships

Throughout his rally career, Didas has worked with several experienced co-drivers who have contributed to shaping his pace, discipline, and stage confidence. These include Alfred Mutanda, Nalumu Nicole, Kyeyune Ronald, Wamala Francis, and most recently Joseph Bongole. His partnership with Bongole has been described by fans as “calm meets confidence, with both aiming to improve consistency and competitiveness in the NRC.

Machinery Evolution

Didas has always been loyal to Subaru some say too loyal, but Subaru owners don’t accept that kind of criticism. He started with a Subaru Impreza WRX 2WD, moved to a Subaru N14 that gave him decent results (and probably a few grey hairs), and has now upgraded to a Subaru Impreza GVB.

This GVB is expected to make its debut at the Shell V-Power Pearl of Africa Uganda Rally, and fans are already warning it: “Just behave… this man is still getting to know you.”

Pearl of Africa Rally Expectations

Heading into the Pearl of Africa Uganda Rally, Didas Matsiko returns to his home region of Mbarara with strong local support behind him. With a newly upgraded Subaru Impreza GVB, his primary focus is clear build confidence with the car, complete the event safely, and establish a strong foundation for future NRC battles. While not chasing unnecessary risks, Didas aims to finish strongly and use the event as a crucial learning platform in his evolving rally career.
